Scandinavia's longest narrow-gauge railway

Welcome to Smalspåret, the narrow-gauge railway between Hultsfred and Västervik. It is 70 kms long, but only 891mm. broad; it stretches from the forests of Småland in the west, past lakes, through small communities and agricultural areas out to the archipelago in the east. Along this line trains have run ever since 1879, despite many attempts to close it. Now, thanks to the determined efforts of residents and enthusiasts, the line is now saved, and today is regarded as one of Sweden’s top-10 industrial and constructional memorials.

So, climb aboard a railbus or a steam train, feel that atmosphere, and join us for a very different railway journey. It is here you can experience how a train journey used to be. The whole operation is run by volunteers from all over Sweden and abroad; for example, neither the driver nor conductor receives any remuneration for services rendered, and your fares go directly into maintaining the railway. Welcome!.
